Poemとpoetryの違い・使い方

Poemの意味は、

 

“a composition in verse”

“a piece of writing that usually has figurative language written in separate lines that often have a repeated rhythm and sometimes rhyme”

 

訳すと、

「詩」です。

 

Poetryとは、

 

 

“the art of rhythmical composition”

“literary work in verse”

“writings of a poet:poems”

 

こちらも訳すと「詩」ですが、

集合的に詩、文学の一形式としての詩です。

 

Mr. Bubbles wrote 15 beautiful poems.

The poetry of Mr. Bubbles is beautiful but his novels are garbage.

She read Mr. Bubble’s poems in a collection of modern poetry.

 

それと、

poetryには、

 

“poetic qualities however manifested”

“poetic spirit or feeling”

“something suggestive of or likened to poetry”

 

等の意味もあります。

 

ですから、

 

She played the gavotte with poetry.

Our dancing was poetry.

 

等の使い方もあります。
