Rationalとは、

 

“agreeable to reason; reasonable; sensible; having reason” etc. です。

 

「合理的な、理性のある、正気の、推理の、推論の」等の訳になります。

 

名詞として「有理数」の意味もありますが、

通常は形容として使います。

 

The witness gave a rational account of the incident.

His argument was far from rational.

 

 

一方、rationaleとは、

 

“the fundamental reason/reasons accounting for something”

 

“statement of reasons”

 

“logic,basis,grounds” etc.です。

 

 

訳すと、

 

「理論的解釈、理論的根拠」となります。

 

Their rationale for the decision made no sense.

 

The rationale behind the tax increase was generally accepted.

 

Rationaleは名詞です。

 

Rationalとrationaleは発音・読み方も違います。
