Kill it/killing it/killed itの意味　（スラング）

Kill it/killing it/killed itはinformalな熟語でスラングですが、ビジネスでもたまに使われている表現です。

例えば、

“Ten Brands Killing it with Content Marketing”

“Apple killed it last quarter with increased iPhone sales….”

 

この様な使い方の意味は、

“high performance/performing”
“excel”
“do something very well”

「とても上手に」
「勝る」
「優れる」

等です。

 

「殺す」ではないです。

 

 

ですから、

“Ten Brands Killing it with Content Marketing”は、

「コンテンツマーケティングを上手にやっている１０のブランド」です。

Keep you postedの意味は、

“keep someone informed (of the latest developments/news), update, keep up to date, “

“to make sure that someone always knows what is happening”

“to make sure you know what is happening”

です。

 

The lawyer kept us posted about our lawsuit.

The worker kept the manager posted about the inventory.

 

訳すと、

「随時連絡します。」

「逐次連絡をします。」

「最新の情報を逐一知らせる。」

な感じですね。

 

少しinformalな表現ですが、ビジネス英会話では良く使われます。ビジネスメールでも使えます。

 

“I’ll keep you posted about the ad campaign.”

“Please keep us posted about the contract negotiations.”

Doing one’s businessの意味（スラング）

ビジネス英会話でちょっと避けたい表現・熟語は、「Doing one’s business… doing his business… doing her business…. etc」です。

Doing one’s businessとは、スラングで「用便する」という意味です。

The dog is doing his business on my neighbor’s lawn.

犬が営業活動している事ではないですね。（ワハハ）

ビジネス英語では、例えば

Mr. Miyagi is doing his business down the street.

の様な表現は避けましょう。

もっと安全な文は、

Mr. Miyagi does business down the street. 等です。

Anywayかanyways?　正しい方は？

Anywayかanyways?　違いは何でしょう？　どっちが正しいでしょうか？

 

スタンダードの英語だと、anywayが正しいです。


 

Informalの英語でanywaysは使われていますね。映画とかテレビでよくあります。

 

因に、意味は同じです: In any case等。

 

しかし、formal writing では、anywaysは避けましょう。

 

ある人達は、anywaysが嫌いなので、ビジネス英会話では、使わない方が良いと思います。

 

特に、面接とか履歴書では、絶対に避けましょう。場合によって、面接で落ちる理由でもあるらしいです。
