Mallとstrip mallの意味は違います。

 

Strip mallとは、

“an open-air shopping mall where the stores are arranged in a row, with a sidewalk in front. Strip malls are typically developed as a unit and have large parking lots in front.” – Wiki

通常は一つの建物にいくつかの店があって・並んでいて、入り口は外からだけとなっています。建物内から他の店に行けません。外に出て他の店に入るmallです。建物の外の歩道を使います。

 

一方、mallだと建物内から他の店に行けます。建物内の「歩道」を使えます。

Mallとは、

“one or more buildings forming a complex of shops with interconnecting walkways enabling visitors to walk from unit to unit.” – paraphrased from Wiki

 

因に、イギリス英語ではstrip mallをretail parkと呼ぶらしいです。
