Keep you postedの意味 (keep someone posted)

Keep you postedの意味は、

“keep someone informed (of the latest developments/news), update, keep up to date, “

“to make sure that someone always knows what is happening”

“to make sure you know what is happening”

です。

 

The lawyer kept us posted about our lawsuit.

The worker kept the manager posted about the inventory.

 

訳すと、

「随時連絡します。」

「逐次連絡をします。」

「最新の情報を逐一知らせる。」

な感じですね。

 

少しinformalな表現ですが、ビジネス英会話では良く使われます。ビジネスメールでも使えます。

 

“I’ll keep you posted about the ad campaign.”

“Please keep us posted about the contract negotiations.”

Doing one’s businessの意味（スラング）

ビジネス英会話でちょっと避けたい表現・熟語は、「Doing one’s business… doing his business… doing her business…. etc」です。

Doing one’s businessとは、スラングで「用便する」という意味です。

The dog is doing his business on my neighbor’s lawn.

犬が営業活動している事ではないですね。（ワハハ）

ビジネス英語では、例えば

Mr. Miyagi is doing his business down the street.

の様な表現は避けましょう。

もっと安全な文は、

Mr. Miyagi does business down the street. 等です。

Inventoryの発音　ビジネス英会話

Inventoryは、ビジネス英会話・英語勉強でよく使う単語ですね。


Mastering the American Accent

発音は

 

in-vuhn-tohr-eeですが（音声を聞く）、よくあるミスをカタカナで書いてしまうと、

 

in-vuhn-トリー

 

みたいなミスです。Inventory の to　（ト）が短すぎます。音声を聞く

 

またカタカナで書いてしまいますけど、もうちょとマシな発音は、

 

in-vuhn-トー(オ）リー


 
カタカナ発音はやっぱり避けたいので、本当に正しいのは、

 

in-vuhn-tohr-ee です。 音声を聞く

 

Tohrを充分に伸ばしましょう。

 

アメリカ英語の発音の勉強にこのテキスト・Mastering the American Accentをお勧めです。私もクラスで使っています。

ビジネス英会話でActuallyはNG?!

ビジネス英会話、ビジネスプレゼンテーションで、actuallyは使わない方が良いという記事がTIMEとInc.に掲載されていました。

 

使わない方が良いより、you should stop using (it) immediately.　だそうです。至急に。

 

Actuallyを必要ないのに使うと、信用を失ってしまう(Kills your credibility)。が記事の要点でした。

 

Actuallyの使い方(ブログ記事)でも書いたのですが、actuallyは前に書いた事、言った事をcontradict/modifyする使い方が多いです。ビジネスのプレゼンテーションでは、自分が自分をcontradictしている印象を与えてしまいます。

 

次の例は、

 

Q: How many visitors do you get per month?

A: We actually get over 3000 visitors a month.

 

ここでは、actuallyは全然いらないですね。記事によると、聞いてる方は、なぜactuallyが使われたのか考えてしまう。ある意味では、何かを疑う事になるという結論です。

 

ビジネス英会話では、特にプレゼンテーションでは、不要な言葉は使うな！という事ですね。

ビジネス英語学習の時点で、もう不要な言葉・表現を使わない習慣をつけましょう。
