Anytimeとany timeの違い・使い分け

Anytimeは”any time; at any time”の副詞です。

意味はany timeと同じですが、文法的に違いがあります。
 



 

副詞anytimeの使い方

例：　Call me anytime.

訳：　いつでも電話して。

副詞anytimeが動詞callを修飾しています。

 

一方、any timeは形容詞のany + 名詞のtimeです。

 

I don’t have any time this week. では、any timeになります。

Anyなしだと、I don’t have time.

Any形容詞がtime名詞を修飾して、I don’t have any time.

 

 

言語は時代と共に変わるので、informalなwritingではどっちでもOKになる場合もあります。

 

しかし、formalなwritingの場合は、形容詞と名詞の場合は any time で２語を使いましょう。副詞はanytimeで一語です。

文章によって、両方使える様な場合はany timeの方が「安全」です。

In timeとon timeの使い方・違い

In timeとon timeの使い方は色々ありますが（「やがて、後に、調子が合って、後払い、分割払い」等）、この説明は一般的な使い方についてです。

 



 

In timeの意味は、

“before a time limit expires; early enough; enough time to spare; before the last moment”

「間に合って、遅れずに」

just in timeは「ちょうど間に合って」

例えば、He would have died if the ambulance hadn’t arrived in time.

 

 

On timeの意味は、

“according to schedule; punctual; at the planned time; neither late nor early”

「時間どおりに、定刻」

例えば、The plane departed on time.

 

文章によって両方の表現を使える場合もありますが、意味が変わります。

 

The traffic was bad, but we arrived in time for dinner.

意味　Traffic was bad but 間に合って着いた。

 

The traffic was bad, but we arrived on time for dinner.

意味　Traffic was bad but時間通りに着いた。

アパート apartmentの意味

Apartmentの意味は、

“a room or a group of related rooms, among similar sets in one building, designed for use as a dwelling.”
 
ですから、アパート・マンションはすべてapartmentです。
 
日本語のように、「アパート」と「マンション」の区別はありません。（「Mansionに住んでいる」、と英語で言うと全然別な意味になります！）

 
 



 
例えば、これは安いapartmentです。

これはニューヨークの数百万ドル（数億円）のapartmentです。

Apartmentの価格・賃貸は関係なく、apartmentとすべて呼びます。

Rentとrent outの違い・使い方

Rentとrent out はコンテックストによって意味が変わります。それと、同義語の場合もありますので、ちょっとややこしいですね。



 

I am renting this room.

と

I am renting this room out.

 

の違いは何でしょう？

 

I am renting this room. は借りている。

I am renting this room out. は貸しているです。

 

 

Rent outの意味は、

“grant the services of or the temporary use of, for a fee.”

 

例えば、They rent out their apartment to tourists during summer.

Touristsに貸している、です。

 

Rent to が「貸す」でrent fromが「借りる」です。Toとかfromが付くと分かりやすいですね。

Rent outはrent toと同じ意味になります。

 

To, from, out等が付いていないと、コンテックストで意味が変わります。
